Oldie but a goodie...

I have to be honest and say that I don't have much heart yet to post too much. So I have decided to show you something I did a million years ago. This was oil on watercolor paper. Interesting effect but not enough forgiveness in it for someone as inexperienced as I was (and still am). Once I put a color down it had to stay, no do-overs.
I need do-overs!

I really like it the way it is, it has a great dreamlike quality. The ground seems just a bit misty, something that is hard to experience in reality (though when it does it is so cool).

Thanks Doug - you know how sometimes you can find one little thing in your own work that you really like? I like my tree trunks in this one...

By the way Doug.. I'm impressed with the entire painting on your blog but the guitar strings especially. May sound weird but I like the way you rendered them...

This is a mood painting if I ever saw one--right out of a fairy tale...nice job.

Ron - you're right, it needs a clunker over there on the left.

Thanks Naquaiya, There might very well be fairies in the trees. Do tree faries have a special name?

Bill - thank you so much for the comment, it means a lot to me. We've had a run of terrible misfortune but things have no choice but to improve. Thanks again -

Hi Cara Dawn, thanks for stopping by; I don't see enough of Ron M. I'm afraid as we are seperated by several kilometers of dense cougar-infested forest. I see enough of him though to know he's one heck of a watercolourist and character, and I've always thought it was me who was keeping good company! I have actually visited your blog quite a few times over the months, just never left a comment. Been rather busy of late. I either found your blog through Ron Morrison's comments or from...Daily Painters maybe? Anyway, I've always liked what I saw here and am also intrigued because you're close to Maynard Dixon country...aren't you? Best, and I hope your painting can provide some sense of solace coping with the recent terrible loss your family has suffered.

Clive -

Oh, to have been Maynard Dixon in a former life.....or future one or just to have the abilty he had in this present life. He got it totally right you know, the vastness and grandure of the southwest...he was right on the mark.

But one small clarification - used to be in his country, now I live in the midwest, or at least my body does. But my spirit will always be at home in New Mexico.

Thank you for your comment. I visit you blog and have been waiting your return - seemed much longer than "5" ha ha!
